Hello, Thank you so much for your time and hopefully you enjoy this online interview! First, my mother, Jeanne Snyder, is a learning therapist for dyslexics. She teaches her students reading and writing skills. I will help out with the teaching at times in the English and writing department. I also provide the students with a wide variety of study skills, habits, and ways to approach and familiarize themselves with their teacher’s habits, in order for them to excel in a particular class. My mother mainly teaches dyslexics and ADD/ADHD children, therefore I am accustomed with their learning habits and how sometimes it is very difficult to pay attention, by maintaining focus. Along those lines, my sister is one of my mother's students and I have grown up tutoring her in a variety of subjects up through her sophomore year in high school. Along with my mother's learning therapy, father, David Ashbaugh, is a mathmetician and he used to substitute teach and tutor upper level math to kids. Over the years I have picked up on some of his skills that he has when it comes to explaining math to someone. My SAT score was a total 1510 with writing and a 1010 without writing. My ACT score was a 21. I took AP classes and tests in high school, such as world history, English 4, macroeconomics, and government. On the history, government, and English 4 tests I received a 2 on all. Personally, I have always enjoyed helping people and being able to see someone's face light up when they find the right answer to any problem. Especially, when I am there to help them out the joy in that moment is intense. All my life my friends and family have come to me or I have offered my assistance to them for any tutoring needs. In high school, I would have loved to work as a tutor, but I was unable to find a job anywhere. My strengths are a wide variety of compassion, patience, determination, responsibility. Those may sound like characteristic, but they are also strengths. For compassion, I am able to understand completely when someone is struggling with a subject and I am more than willing to stay there and help until they understand or find a way to understand, which plays into my determination because I am not afraid to get my hands dirty and help someone to my full potential. Also, the patience factor is explained because I do not mind if we spend a long only doing one thing until the light bulb turns on. Being responsible is a must for a tutor, since the student relies completely on the tutor for guidance and support and if that is not constantly given the student’s moral greatly suffers, along with grades. Not only will I be there for those I tutor, but if I need to go out and find learning activities to guide them in their learning I will take the necessary time and retrieve the activities. Finally, I have amazing communication skills. I am able to speak on anyone's level, in order for full comprehension to be achieved. Also, I read body language very well and can determine when something needs to be changed for the other's comfort to be met. Plus, I always try to have a smile on no matter what! Last semester I took college algebra, plant biology, chemistry, and English composition. This semester I am enrolled in animal biology, English research and composition, chemistry, and popular music in America. Along with the music, I was in band and played to flute for eight years and I am very good with tutoring music reading skills, listening to pitch, and assisting with various musical terms. My major is Biomedicine/Pre-Vet because I plan to become a veterinarian. For a year and a half I worked at Argyle Veterinary Hospital as officially a kennel technician, but I was also able to perform veterinary technician work also. The skills gained there are enormous and have really opened my eyes to what is expected in real job. In this case, the real job is working with beings that are completely under your personal care and depend upon you solely for help. Also, there I had to be flexible, constantly learning, and always aware of my surroundings in order for everything to run smoothly. If I were to become a tutor I would have this same approach at the job as I did as a kennel technician. Thank you again so much for your time and I hope to be hearing from you soon! Hannah Ashbaugh
